US Presidents Are Not Ambassadors For Freedom, They Are Ghouls Who Stalk The World

The US military has announced “planning for the months and years ahead” in their supply of weapons to the Ukrainian government. It is an undeniable fact that the longer the war in Ukraine goes on the more people will die but will it be worth it in the end ?

Even if you believe that people in the EU/NATO countries have the right to pay the price with the lives of Russians and Ukrainians the precedence isn’t good.

During the reign of the autocratic Shah, Pahlavi, western powers flowed arms into Iran. In 1979 a revolution toppled the Shah and was itself outflanked by Islamists who took power and possession of a vast arsenal of modern tanks, artillery, helicopters and jets. In 1980 Iran’s neighbour and rival for regional power, Iraq, sought to capitalize on Iran’s upheaval and invaded. Iraq was encouraged and supported by Western powers who poured in the latest hardware for death and destruction. The USSR, also hostile to an Islamic republic, backed Iraq and also sent weapons.

With both sides armed to the teeth with the best that French, British, Ukrainian and US arms manufacturers could produce the war degenerated into ever-more bloody stalemate. Undeterred, the US response, as it always is, was to increase its proxy’s capacity for killing as if that would solve the problem. The US and West Germany even supplied Iraq with the chemicals it needed to manufacture poison gas which it repeatedly deployed against Iranian soldiers. The self-appointed guardians of civilisation and humanitarian principles — the “Western” powers now supporting Ukraine — said nothing to these atrocities at the time.

This unnecessary, futile and barbaric bloodbath went on, paid for and facilitated by the West, for 8 years. It ended in 1988 with precisely nothing having been decided; no territory changed hands and Iran and Iraq remained rival regional powers disputing control of the Shatt al-Arab waterway. The cost of this obscene Western choreography was estimated to be 1 million dead.

And after this orgy of letting other people’s blood was over, could the West declare that their stated pursuit of values, rules and democracy had been advanced and that the world was a better place as a result of the carnage ? No. Almost immediately the West began withdrawing support from Iraq and started warning the world about how dangerous the Iraqi regime was; about it’s military capability, delivered by the West and about its use of chemical weapons, enabled by the West.

The Western powers ultimately reverted to their preferred method of “problem-solving” and attacked Iraq twice, in 1991 and 2003.

From the US and British sponsored coup that removed the last democratic leader of Iran, Mohammad Mosaddeq, in 1953 to the destruction of Iraq’s second city, Mosul, in 2017 during the US “war on terror” the West waged war on the people of Iran and Iraq for 70 years and the only winners were the US and European oil companies and arms manufacturers.

The US does not care about values or rules or democracy, it cares about the US. The frenzied and unfettered support for Ukraine will not take the world one step closer to stability, prosperity and peace. It will simply be another violent lurch in America’s never-ending pursuit of it’s own interests at anybody’s cost.

The US now has a captive market — Europe — for it’s gas despite it’s high price. Russian capitalists, who have also been making a killing during the war selling energy at inflated prices and churning out their own expensive weaponry will not pay the price. President Putin, mirroring his US competitor, has steered Russia towards new markets who were once enthralled to the West and who now hedge their bets as US decline becomes clearer. Influence waxes and wanes and nothing changes. Working people, as always, pay the price; unaffordable energy if they are lucky, starvation if they are not.

US presidents are not ambassadors for freedom, they are ghouls who stalk the world looking for opportunities to sell weapons and defend US market share; actually solving any problems is the last thing they want to do.
